Service shows itself in a myriad of ways. From a genuine smile to a stranger, to a foundation that impacts millions. I believe that women rarely embody their true worth. And the effects of the lack of empowerment are sinficantly magnified in developing countries. Studies show when women in developing nations get access to money, they use it differently than men – often investing 90% to feed and educate their children and to improve conditions within their own communities.
Sadly, many of these women have limited access to education or decent jobs. Their opportunities to earn an income of any kind are few, but, with a little help, many can start and grow small businesses that dramatically change the quality of their lives. Empowering a single woman creates a multi-generational impact.
“Study after study has taught us that there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.”
– Seventh UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan
Having created financial security in my own life, I have immense gratitude and desire to pay it forward. For years, I have been in search for a project that deeply resonated with me, and I have found it.
I am thrilled to be a founding leader of Women United for Change which empowers thousands of women in developing countries by means of an 18 months comprehensive training program, providing them with the opportunity to start a micro-business that can change their financial future.
Through Women United for Change and the training program, these women are not only taught fundamentals (some of these women don’t know basic math), but over the course of their education, they learn how to set up sustainable and profitable businesses.
Women United for Change creates lasting change by working at the foundational level as opposed to simply donating and putting a band aid on the problem. It truly empowers women. The impact this opportunity has on them, their family (especially their children) and their community is astounding!
Women United for Change is led by successful women who have achieved their own financial independence and want to pay it forward.
“The world will be saved by the western woman.”
-Dalai Lama
